IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alexa Riegels
Richmond
December 27, 1934 – May 23, 2016
Alexa Riegels Richmond (Medford Lakes, NJ) died at her home on May 23, 2016 at age 81. Born December 27, 1934 in Pomona, California to Josephine Brown Riegels and Roy Max Riegels. She spent much of her young adult years split between California and Vermont. She eventually set down roots in East Calais and Hardwick, Vermont. She was the older sister to Helen Riegels Mackey, Theodore Myers (deceased) and Katherine Myers (died in infancy). Her heart broke in July 2013 when her son, David Richmond, was killed in an accident. She is survived by her daughter Maya Richmond, son in-law Greg Coolidge, and granddaughter Olivia Coolidge with whom she lived with during the last few years of her life. Alexa deeply appreciated the kindness her son in-law always showed her. And found great joy being a part of her granddaughter life.
Alexa was fortunate to be so close to her sister Helen and brother in-law Allen Mackey, nephews Scott Mackey and Blake Mackey and their compassionate loving families. Many good times were spent with the Mackey family and they were always there when needed.
Alexa graduated Wilmington High School (Vermont) in 1953. After years of working and supporting her family she decided to return to college to get her teaching degree from Johnson State College and then her master's degree from Saint Michael's College in special education. Alexa found great joy working at Hardwick Elementary school. Her fellow professionals became her extended family and teaching gave Alexa a sense of purpose.
She was an avid gardener. She planted a veggie garden wherever she lived. Her love of animals was passed on to her children and granddaughter. A house was never a home without pet hair and fresh veggies. Her quirky sense of humor will be missed. She was the source of great stories and the subject of many wonderful memories that will live on as family stories.
In honor of Alexa's wishes there is no formal service. Her ashes will rest-off the Big Sur, California coastline. Condolences and Memories may be shared at www.mccannhealey.com under the obituary of Alexa Richmond .
