Obituary

On December 31, 2013. (nee Hurff) Age 74. Of Gloucester City. Loving Daughter of the late Edward and Mary Edna Hurff (nee Callahan). Cherished sister of the late Mary Ellen Neilio. Survived by her nieces Susan Hoffman, Michelle Vayo and nephews: Charles Neilio and Edward Neilio. Former wife of Rich Ritchie. Survived by many dear great-nieces, great-nephews and her beloved cats Sam and Sunshine. Carol was born in Camden and was a longtime resident of Gloucester City. She was a 1957 graduate of Gloucester City High School. Carol was very active with her friends and classmates and organized reunions to bring everyone together. She worked at Campbell Soup Company in Camden and retired after 39 years of outstanding service as a Senior Manager in Corporate Licensing. She took great pride in her work and loved her friends from Campbell Soup. Carol found her true passion when she made her first trip to Borneo in 1988 to volunteer with the Orangutan Foundation. She made 14 trips in total and is mentioned in the book The Intimate Ape by Shawn Thompson. Carol enjoyed going to the Gloucester City Library daily and made many friendships there. In accordance with Carols wishes, she donated her body to the Humanities Gift Registry in Philadelphia to allow Medical School Students the ability to do research. Relatives, friends and former classmates are kindly invited to attend her visitation on Sunday, January 19th, 2014 from 1 pm to 3 pm at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Life Celebration and Eulogies 3 pm in the funeral home. Family prefers in lieu of flowers memorial donations to Orangutan Foundation International: 824 South Wellesley Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90049.
