Edward B. "Shad" Agar, Jr., 88, of Gloucester City who passed away on October 15, 2016, 3 days short of his 89th birthday.

Beloved husband of the late Eileen C. (nee DeVlieger) and devoted father of Lawrence M. (Ann M.) of Mt. Royal, Nancy Barna (John) of West Deptford, Al of Wildwood Crest and Mary Lou Testa (Leonard) of Gloucester City. Survived by ten grandchildren Drs. Ryan Barna (Olivia), Melissa Jennings (Alex), Tyler Barna, Jennifer Testa, Leonard Testa III, Christopher Agar, Austin Agar, Kyle Agar, Trevor Agar and Adam Agar, great-grandchildren Chase Barna and Cole Barna.

Mr. Agar a.k.a. "Shad" was born on October 18, 1927 at 703 Division Street, the eighth of nine children of Edward and Catherine Agar (nee Morozzi).

As a teenager, Mr. Agar worked at the A&P Store on the corner of Lane Avenue and Market Street. Upon graduation from high school in 1945, he enlisted in the United State Coast Guard, he received an honorable discharge on December 13, 1948 after 2 tours of duty as a Second Class Petty Officer.

Mr. Agar worked on NJ Savannah-1st Nuclear Powered Merchant Ship. Also was a member of the New Jersey National Guard 161st MP Bin. He was an Honor Guard at the 1945 Navy Day Parade in New York City attended by President Truman.

Mr. Agar was a proud lifelong resident of Gloucester City. He was past President and volunteer fireman at Pine Grove Fire Association, former bodyguard for Governor Driscoll, Treasurer of Gloucester City Rod & Gun Club, Secretary and coach of Gloucester City Little League. He also was field supervisor Walt Whitman Bridge Construction Union Representative, CWA at E.I. Dupont in Deepwater, retired 1985.

He was a contributor of the book entitled "Gloucester City, New Jersey (Images of American Series)" by Gabriel Parent & Adrianne Parent. He worked with the Gloucester City Historical Society in organizing a collection of several of his images to offer a glimpse into Gloucester City's history. He could tell you anything you wanted to know about the City.

Mr. Agar was a huge Philadelphia sports fan, especially the Flyers. He was the master of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He also enjoyed darts, billiards and playing cards as a young man. After retirement he enjoyed traveling, his grand and great grandchildren, his animals and hanging by the pool.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, October 22nd, from 10:30 to 12 noon at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial 12 Noon in the church. Interment with U.S.C.G. honors will follow in New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr.
