Obituary

Eleanor Gerlock (Grossmick), otherwise known as Dolly or Mom Mom, gave her daughter and Son in Law her last demands on May 15, 2018. She was the Mother of the golden son Gerald Gerlock Jr., the only daughter, the princess of the family, Jeanette (Gerlock) Naylor, the invisible James Gerlock Sr. and the deceased Joseph Gerlock. Although she would say she was a proud Grandmother of many, she had her favorites, and the entire family knew exactly who they were. The golden grandchild Harry Gerlock Sr. followed by the second runner up Craig Naylor. She was blessed with plenty of great grandchildren but once again the stars of her show would be Harry Gerlock Jr. and Jackson Gerlock. What can I say, if you wanted an elite spot, you had to spend some time earning it. Eleanor lived an eventful life; or she at least made it eventful for the crew surrounding her. I can honestly say, Mom Mom stories will live on for generations to come; from our birthday stories, to the turkey in the crockpot, or the time my dad thought taking the tires from her car would keep her from going out. See that "I'm going to do what I want when I want" gene, that's all Dolly. She lived big, she loved big, and she lost big.

She is also survived by her brother, her partner in crime, her shopping and smoking buddy, Walter Grossmick Sr. and her little sister Dorothea Parenteau. She has another brother, but we don't talk about him, and to be honest, if she was here she would just wave her hand in that motion to me as to say "don't even bother to mention him". So let's move on to her favorite nieces. Denise West made sure she snuck healthy snacks and warm clothes for her Aunt Eleanor and Michelle Ullman covered the colorful clothes and the sweets for her Aunt Dolly. At the final stretch Mom Mom basically adopted Shawn Morehead from the Deptford Center Nursing Home. I say adopted, because when she starts giving you her list of demands you're pretty much like family to her.

One of the happiest times in my mom's life was when my dad asked her to marry him. Dementia is an absolutely horrible disease but I am glad my mom was stuck at the happiest time of her life; where every day she packed her little bag and waited for my dad to pick her up so they could run away together.

I would like to thank the following for all their support over the years; Dr. Ellis and the NewPoint Outpost Staff, Dr. Spinosi and the Lourdes Medical Associates staff and the Deptford Center Staff (especially Shawn and the ladies of wing B).

We are not a funeral type of family. So if you wanted to see her one final time you missed your opportunity, you should have taken advantage of the previous 74 years.

Everyone who remembers her is asked to celebrate Eleanor's (Dolly) life in their own way; raising a glass of her favorite drink, Pepsi, in her memory would be quite appropriate. In place of flowers Jeanette would hope you would do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul in her name. And always remember, "It is not the length of life, but the depth."
