Gloucester City – On January 5, 2021. Age 97. Loving husband of 60 years to the late Dorothy Elizabeth Burkhardt (nee Humenic). Cherished father of Francis Burkhardt, Kenneth (Mary Lou) Burkhardt and Elyse (Michael) McLean. Devoted grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 20.

Francis was born in New Suffolk, New York and was a longtime resident of Gloucester City.  He proudly entered the United States Coast Guard in 1941 and retired in 1966. Francis was a clerk for the United States Postal Service at the Woodcrest Post Office in Cherry Hill from 1966 and retired in 1988. He was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 57.

At the request of the family, Francis' viewing, Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Gloucester City and Burial with U.S. Coast Guard Military Honors in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to watch the livestream of Francis' Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10:30 am on St. Mary's Church Gloucester City Facebook Page.
