Frank Peter Chiovarou, age 87, of Newtown, PA passed away peacefully Sunday April 25, 2021 at home surrounded and cared for by his family.

Peter was born in Summit, NJ and graduated from Our Lady of the Valley Catholic High School in Orange in 1952. He attended Newark College of Engineering in Newark NJ and Rutgers University in New Brunswick graduating with a Science Degree.

Peter's career started at Bell Telephone Labs in Murray Hill, NJ and continued at RCA Solid State Divisions in Somerville, NJ and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, David Sarnoff Research Center in Princeton, NJ and concluded at Harris Semiconductor Division in Somerville, NJ as a Lead Engineer.

Among various awards, his greatest accomplishment was obtaining a U.S. Patent: Method of Making Phosphorus Glass Passivated Transistor. He also was a co-owner in Martinsville Hardware, Martinsville, NJ.  After retiring from the semiconductor world, he took a fun job as a golf course starter for Somerset County Park Commission in NJ. Peter was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of Saint Andrew's R.C. Church in Newtown, PA.

Peter's hobbies were mostly concentrated outdoors.  He enjoyed swimming, golfing, tennis, gardening and marathon running.  While living in Florida he also enjoyed boating and scuba diving. In his later years he was able to devote time to oil painting. His greatest hobby of all times was spending time with his family at home, at sporting activities and at the beach. His grandchildren will miss his famous "Grandpa's Chicken" which he always patiently grilled.

Peter is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Mary Chiovarou (nee Rafferty). Blessed with five cherished children: Lisa and Chris Martell, Houston, TX, late Lauren Chiovarou, Leslie Westhead, Mt. Laurel, NJ, Peter J. and Sarah Chiovarou, Newtown, PA, Colleen R. and Patrick Healey, Gloucester City, NJ. Ten beloved grandchildren: Lauren and Martyn Robertson, Lindsay Martell, Leah Martell all of Houston, TX, Danielle and Kenneth Foster NY, NY, Shannon Westhead and fiancé Dennis Corpora, NY, NY, Derek Westhead, Mt. Laurel, NJ, Sophia Chiovarou and Leo Chiovarou, Newtown, PA and Katherine Healey and Gerald Healey, Gloucester City, NJ. Dear brother of Maryellen (late Keith) Zaharia, Massapeque, NY and predeceased by many siblings. Survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Peter's viewing on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:15 am at Saint Andrew's R.C. Church: 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am in the church. Cremation and Inurnment will be private. Social Distancing and Face Masks will be required for the viewing and Mass. There will be no evening viewing and no viewing at the funeral home. Peter's Funeral Mass will be live streamed at http://www.standrewnewtown.com/ and click on live-streaming.
