Surrounded by his loving family, on November 8, 2017. Longtime resident of Haddon Heights.
Loving husband of 37 years to Barbara (nee Simone). Loving father of Troy, his wife Jill and Shaun, his wife Kelly. Cherished Pop of Ian, Abby and Sam. Beloved brother of Nora Axt (Tim), Marty (Marjorie), Tom (Joan), Susan Griffith (late Robert) and Doris Mutascio (Joe). Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Gene was born on November 17, 1957 in Bronx, NY to the late Martin and Florence Dannenfelser (nee Mulholland). He dedicated his life to Public Service and the protection of others. Gene was involved in many organizations including being the President of the Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund. He retired as a Camden County Fire Marshal holding the highest rank of Deputy Chief. He held the highest rank of Chief and life member of the Haddon Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Gene's dedication to the fire department brotherhood continued when he was sent to Ground Zero on 9/11 for rescue and recovery efforts. Gene's battle with 9/11 related lung cancer ended after a courageous battle surrounded by family. He was a class act and a true hero.
Relatives, friends and fire colleagues are invited to a Memorial Mass for Gene on Saturday, November 11th at 11 AM at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 4th Ave. & Kings Hwy., Haddon Heights. There will be no viewing or visitation before or after Mass. Following the service, his life will be celebrated by his favorite activity, a fire department parade and luncheon.
