Obituary

On November 21, 2015, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 84. Born and raised in Gloucester City. He attended St. Mary's Grammar School and was a graduate of Gloucester City High School, class of 1949. George served in the National Guard for 4 years. Loving husband of 61 years to Elizabeth, (nee Bronsky), whom he met at the Gloucester City Dance on the rooftop at the Gloucester City Pool along the Delaware River. They fell in love and married in 1954. Loving father of Beth Sturgis, Diane Wieland (Paul), Margie Runquist (Jeff), Daniel Sturgis (Carol) and George Sturgis, III (Michelle). Cherished grandfather of George Parkin, IV (Megan), Danny Sturgis, Aaron Sturgis and Nicole Wieland. Cherished great grandfather of Amber and Sydney Parkin. Dear brother of Harry Sturgis and Anna Marie Sturgis.

George retired from Coastal Eagle Point Plant in Westville, where he worked as a dockman for 35 years. He loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. He loved a good joke and could always get every one in the family to smile. He also enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching game shows. He was known to do good deeds in the neighborhood in his late years and took great pride in caring for his house and yard.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday morning, November 27, 2015 from 10 to 11:15 AM at St. Mary's R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 AM in the Church. Interment will follow in New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr.
