IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerard J.
Gallagher
June 2, 1956 – August 1, 2021
Gerard J. Gallagher passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021. He was 65.
Loving husband of 43 years to Maread Gallagher (nee McErlean). Predeceased by his beloved children, Damian and Tina Marie. Loving father of Brenda (Joseph), Matthew, David and Rory. Cherished grandfather of J.C., Tyler and Ryan. Predeceased by his siblings, John, Brendan and Vincent. Beloved brother of Peter, Paul, Declan, Rosaleen, Marie, Caroline, Celine, Ann and Patricia. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gerard was born on June 2, 1956 in Ardara, County Donegal, Ireland to the late Joseph and Sarah Gallagher (nee Malloy). He was a longtime member of the Gloucester City Knights of Columbus #674, Ancient Order of Hibernians Commodore John Barry Division 1, Fort Mercer Club and the Pine Grove Civic Association.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Gerard. Affectionately known as Jerry, he loved a quiet evening in his backyard listening to Owenea FM Radio and a pint of Guinness in hand. Gerard loved Ireland, Donegal, cars, Formula 1 Racing and Columbo. He thoroughly enjoyed traditional Irish music and having the craic (Gaelic for fun ) with his friends who understood MOST of what he said in his Donegal accent. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily activities which included being under the hood of someone's car to lend a helping hand. Gerard tended to his garden and enjoyed making dinner for his bride. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met and no one ever left Gerard without a good laugh or a new story to tell. Gerard was certainly one of a kind who marched to the beat of his own drum and will be sorely missed.
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all…
I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
And if my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss…
Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
My life's been full, I've savoured much:
Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief –
Don't shorten yours with undue grief.
Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.
