Obituary

Of Gloucester City – age 101, on Sunday, March 4, 2018, centenarian Irene Grace Sherry (nee Broderick) returned home to be with her Father in heaven. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Irene moved to Gloucester City and married Martin J. Sherry at age 21. In addition to raising her own children with her husband, Irene was lovingly involved in the upbringing of many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a generous woman who enjoyed cooking, hosting holiday parties, going on trips and shopping with family as well as dancing with her husband and friends. She especially adored just spending time in conversation with her family while sitting together in her kitchen nook. During these many conversations, Irene was amazingly able to recall detailed memories from her past, which allowed her to comfort and connect with others.

Irene was the beloved mother of Laraine Clements (the late James Sr.), Martin J. Sherry, Jr. (the late Claudia) and Raymond Sherry (Linda). She was also the cherished "Ma" to eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to being the matriarch of her own large family, Irene was a loving and supportive daughter to her late parents, Edward and Ada Broderick, devoted and loyal sister to her seven late siblings, cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, a kind and trusted confidant to her in-laws and a caring friend.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her viewing from 9:00 to 10:45 AM on Thursday, March 8th at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 426 Monmouth Street in Gloucester City. A funeral mass will immediately follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at New Saint Mary's Cemetery on Browning Road in Bellmawr.
