On Sunday, May 24, 2026, on Memorial Day weekend, at the Age of 79 in Forest Manor Health Care Center in Frelinghuysen Township, NJ. Formerly of Oakland, California and Alameda, California. Loving son of the late Joseph Henry Gatine and Gertrude Eunice Mable Stewart. James was married in 1975 to Michal S. and divorced in 1989 and she is deceased. Beloved father of Terrance A. Gatine and Jennifer E. Gatine. Devoted grandfather of Lucy and Nico. Dear brother of Susan and predeceased by his siblings: Michelle and Joseph, Jr.

James was born in Oakland, California. He proudly enlisted in the U.S Navy on August 13, 1965 and SR-3 and was honorably discharged on October 12, 1969. James worked as a mail clerk for Shaklee Corporation in San Francisco, California. He loved science fiction, fantasy and was an avid gamer.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend James’ U.S. Navy Military Honors and Inurnment in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery: 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, California 95620 at 1:30 pm PST promptly on Thursday, July 30, 2026. James Inurnment will be in a Columbarium.
