Obituary

Surrounded by his loving family, on April 7, 2013. Age 89. Of Gloucester City. Devoted and loving husband of 66 years to Betty Jane (nee Rinier). Loving father of Betty Jane McNamee, Rose Perna (William) and James F. McNamee, Jr. (Pamela). Cherished grandfather of Armand, Melissa, William, James III, Mandy, Michael and Kyle and cherished great grandfather of 7. One of 18 children to the late Robert McNamee and Jenny Foy, James is survived by his sister, Catherine McDaniels and his brothers, Sylvester and Bernard McNamee. Born in Philadelphia on Feb. 26, 1924, Big Jim proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought during the Normandy Invasion and was a Purple Heart recipient. Jim worked closely alongside his brother who started J.J. McNamee Roofing and Siding and he most recently was employed at Gloucester Catholic High School for 32 years in the maintenance department. In May 2012, Jim received an honorary diploma from Gloucester Catholic at their 83rd Commencement Ceremony. He was a member and Past Commander of Townsend C. Young V.F.W Post #3620, Sergeant of Arms of American Legion Post #135, member of the Order of the Purple Heart #116, all in Gloucester City and a member of the Military Order of the Cootie. Jim was a Captain of the Old Timers String Band of Gloucester City and faithful parishioner of St. Marys R.C. Church. Relatives, friends and members of all Big Jims organizations are kindly invited to attend his viewing on Thursday evening, April 11th, from 6 to 9 PM and Friday morning, April 12th, from 8:45 to 9:45 AM at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:30 AM at Saint Marys R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Interment with U.S. Army Military Honors at Camden County Veterans Cemetery at Harleigh Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to: Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
