IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jonathan
Jones
June 5, 1957 – May 29, 2025
Jonathan Craig Jones, age 67, Westville, NJ died May 29, 2025. Jon was a dearly beloved son, brother and uncle. He loved all kinds of spectator sports, especially college basketball. Despite his disability he read college level history and sports books, talked avidly about jazz artists and had an incredible memory. He loved living independently under the care of Kelsch Associates and talked fondly of his coworkers at Abilities Solutions in Westville. Jon is survived by his brother Randall S. Jones and his wife Kathleen of Millville, NJ and nephews Christopher Jones and Alex Jones.
Jonathan Craig Jones was born on June 5, 1957 at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey to Jerome and Virginia Jones of Woodbury, New Jersey. He was the second son of this couple and Randall was happy to have a brother to call his own. The family later moved to Richwood, New Jersey where Virginia's parents had bought a place to retire. Jonathan and Randall loved the country life and explored the many fields and orchards together. Along the way, it soon became apparent Jonathan was mildly handicapped and needed a bit of extra care. Although he was sharp as a tack he had troubles with the small stuff. For Randall and the family, it was just the way it was and life just went on. The family enjoyed family get togethers, especially time with a grandpop and aunt and uncle on an old family farm near the Blue Ridge Mountains. When Jon was three the family moved back to Woodbury but sadly father Jerome became ill and passed some time later. The boys were young but their mother Virginia was strong and continued on eventually becoming a school teacher in the West Deptford school system. Jonathan went on to learn at St. John of God school in Westville, New Jersey and lived with his mother for many years after his brother went off to school and later married.
During those years with his mother Jon and his mother lived a happy life traveling and being part of local church groups – the most recent being Christ Episcopal Church in Woodbury where Virginia taught Sunday School and Jonathan enjoyed being part of the men's group. An avid sports enthusiast, Jonathan's uncanny ability to pick winning teams had many friends asking advice for their office pools. For the family and others it became a point of laughter that Jon had the touch. Along the way, his brother Randall and sister-in-law Kathleen had two sons and Jon became a happy uncle. For nephews Christopher and Alex, Uncle Jon was fun to be around and they teased him in good cheer. Such a good sport, he loved being their uncle. Sister-in-law Kathleen has a big family and they were always so kind and loving to happily invite Jon to lots of family barbeques, birthdays, and holidays. Where once it was Jon's small family, Jon became part of a whole big and boisterous family he loved very much.
After Jon's mother passed, his brother Randall helped set him up so that he could become a contributing part of the community. Eventually Kelsch Associates would have him in his own new apartment in Westville Commons and he went to work at Abilities Solutions where other individuals like Jonathan could flourish. Jon always reported he had great friends in his building and at work. It is with much appreciation that the people at Kelsch and Abilities Solutions were always so kind and helpful. Jon always got the best of care from them. For all the lives he touched, Jon gave back in kindness and laughter. He will be greatly missed. A sweet and funny brother has passed.
Relatives, friends and caregivers of Kelsch are invited to his visitation on Friday morning, June 6th, 2025 from 10 to 11:30 AM at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, where his funeral services will be celebrated at 11:30 AM.
