Joseph Robert
Peterson
March 24, 1926 – November 7, 2018
Gloucester City - On November 7, 2018. Age 92. Born in Gloucester City, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Sara (Alloway) Peterson. Beloved father of Debra A. Peterson and Barbara Brown, grandfather of Neonta Peterson-Sittinghawk; great-grandfather of Eliyah, Elliott, Seth, Asa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joseph honorably served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy, serving 36 months at sea during the American Area Campaign, European Mid-E Campaign and the Asiatic Pacific Area on the USS Osage (LSV-3). He was Coxswain of a LCM 77 in the 5
th
wave making 11 trips to Omaha Beach and was one of the lucky men who survived D-Day. He later worked as a Marine Machinist for the Philadelphia Ship Yard in Philadelphia. Joseph was a longtime member of Southwood Baptist Church in Woodbury.
Graveside funeral services will be celebrated at 2pm, Thursday, November 15
th
in Camden County Veterans Cemetery at Harleigh, 1640 Haddon Avenue, Camden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Joseph to Alzheimer's Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Please write Joseph Robert Peterson in the memo.
