IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karen M.
Gibbs
December 14, 1958 – April 2, 2021
West Deptford - (nee Sbalcio) passed away on April 2, 2021 at the age of 62. Predeceased by father Salvatore Sbalcio and mother Marion Sbalcio. Survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Donald C. Gibbs Jr. Survived by her devoted children Brett and Brittany Gibbs. Dear Sister Ronnie Brunker and the late Wayne Brunker and Brother Thom Sbalcio (Alicia). Cherished Mother-in-law Queenie Gibbs and the late Donald Gibbs. Loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews and in-laws. Karen graduated from Gloucester City High School in 1977 and graduated nursing school in 1990 and worked as a nurse for 30 years. She loved being a hockey mom. Karen's biggest joys were watching her children play hockey and being around family and friends. She was a second mother to all who visited the house (Fort Gibbs). Karen had a special and unique bond with each and every niece and nephew and also each and every friend that would frequent the house on a regular occasion. She was an avid sports fan of all Philadelphia sports teams. An animal lover, every dog that she owned had a special bond with her. Karen was a lover of all types of music and could tell you which artist or band wrote any song that came on the radio. She loved watching shows with her family and could quote a line from all of them. Her cooking was one of her many talents and she always related it back to her Italian heritage.
Karen grew up spending her summers down the shore and loved the beaches of Wildwood and Cape May. But her all time favorite vacation was going to Disney World with her family. Karen loved spending time with Don's Motorcycle Club and the men enjoyed her cooking as much as everyone else. She may not have rode a motorcycle but she was the heart of the club and they loved when she was around. Her kids will always remember her as the "Hockey Mom" who drove them hours each week to every game and practice. Karen loved when her kids' friends would hang out at the house and she was referred to as the "cool mom." She was known for wearing her bright red lipstick. Whenever Karen went out, people had a tendency to gravitate towards her loving and funny personality. One of her favorite hobbies was dancing with her brother, cousins and close friends at outings and weddings.
For everyone she encountered she left a lasting and loving impact on their lives. Karen will be remembered as a wonderful mother, wife and best friend to all. She wasn't just a mother to us, she was also our best friend, she was our person.
