IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie Frances
Spencer
April 11, 1936 – January 6, 2026
Spencer, Marie Frances (née Taylor), passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 89. A lifelong resident of Gloucester City, NJ, Marie was the beloved daughter of the late Regina "Jean" and William Taylor, and the adopted daughter of the late James and Emily Hampton. She was the devoted wife of the late Daniel T. Spencer Sr. and the loving mother of Daniel Jr. (Valerie), Randall (Christine), and Steven. She was a cherished grandmother to Jennifer and Daniel III, and an adoring great-grandmother to Colin and Cooper. She is also survived by her former daughters-in-law, Kathy Williams and Linda Spencer, as well as her sister-in-law, Jackie Spencer, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Marie was predeceased by her brothers William (Sis), Charles (Joyce), and Butch (Sue) Taylor; James (Mickie) and Randall (Gertrude) Hampton; her sisters Grace (Thomas) Sinelli, Lucy DeFeo, Anna (Arthur) Little, Pearl "Sis" (John) Dolan, and Mabel (John) Bullock; and by brothers- and sisters-in-law William, Joseph (Anna), John (Mary), James (Jane), and Matthew Spencer.
A graduate of Gloucester High School, Marie treasured her years as a cheerleader and often recounted those memories with joy. She dedicated herself first and foremost to her family and took great pride in her many years of service as a volunteer at St. Mary's Grammar School and with the Gloucester Catholic Parents Club. She remained a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Church throughout her life. Marie was also a longtime member of the Gloucester City Little League Ladies Auxiliary, where she served faithfully for many years as vice president.
As her children grew, Marie returned to the workforce, beginning as a supervisor with Roy Rogers Restaurants at both the Deptford Mall and Maple Shade locations. Following the passing of her husband in 1987, she continued her professional career as a payroll clerk with the South Jersey Port Corporation and later as an accounts payable clerk with Camden Iron and Metal. In her retirement, she devoted her time to volunteering with the St. Mary's lunch program, offering compassion and kindness to those in need.
Marie took tremendous pride in her children and grandchildren, celebrating Danny and Steven in their String Band and musical pursuits, Randall in baseball, Jennifer in her years of cheerleading like her grandmother before her, and Daniel in his ice hockey career.
She was a loyal supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies, a gifted cook and exceptional baker, and found her greatest joy during summer vacations with her family in Avalon, NJ.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Marie's viewing on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 PM, and Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 9:15 Am–10:45 AM at St. Mary's R.C.
