Surrounded by her loving family, Mary Lou Burkhardt, passed away peacefully at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill on August 3, 2026, at the age of 78. Of Mullica Hill. Formerly a longtime resident of Gloucester City.
Beloved daughter of the late Bernard J. Murray and Louise Garavaglia Murray. Mary Lou is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Kenneth A. Burkhardt; her children, Stephen Burkhardt (Dawn), Denise Burkhardt, Patrick Burkhardt (Nicole) and Daniel Burkhardt (Meghan); grandchildren, James, Andrew and Kyle Burkhardt, Emily and Samantha Kulpa, Charlie and Grace Burkhardt and Eve Burkhardt; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Ellen Murray. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was predeceased by her brother, Dennis P. Murray.
Mary Lou was a proud graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School, Class of 1966. She continued her education by earning her nursing degree from Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia, embarking on a career devoted to caring for others. Mary Lou was a registered nurse for many years at West Jersey Hospital in Camden.
An avid reader, Mary Lou found joy in books and was always eager to learn. She was a longtime faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Gloucester City, where her faith was a guiding presence throughout her life. Above all, Mary Lou was devoted to her family, whose love and well-being were the center of her life. She will be remembered for her compassion, kindness, unwavering faith, and the deep love she shared with those closest to her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Please arrive to church by 9:45 AM. There will be no viewing or visitation. Interment will be private in Wenonah Cemetery.
