Obituary

Pete Taylor

August 4, 1956 – April 15, 2020

Peter Ward Taylor, who much preferred being called "Pete," was born in Rochester, New York, the youngest of five children.  He was the son of the late Thomas Curtiss Taylor of Rochester, New York and the late Charlotte Little Taylor, originally of Winona, Minnesota although she lived for many years in Rochester and then Princeton, New Jersey before her passing.

Pete lived in Rochester until the age of ten when he went to school at the Bancroft School in Haddonfield and eventually participated in the various work opportunities offered through Bancroft. He spent a number of summers at the Bancroft facilities in Owl's Head, Maine which he enjoyed very much.  He particularly liked greenhouse work but also did clerical work and other jobs.

Pete is survived by his sister Tamsin Taylor of Ashland, Oregon, sister Elizabeth Bodien and her husband Bruce Bodien of Kempton, Pennsylvania, and his brother Tim Taylor and his wife Billie Taylor of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Sayulita, Mexico. He is predeceased by his sister Keta Taylor Colby whose daughter Charlie Colby lives in Redwood City, California. In addition, he leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews, extended family members, and the "second family" of Bancroft where he nurtured friendships with staff and other persons served for more than 50 years. Most recently there he lived in Dogwood House at the Flicker Residences of Bancroft in Voorhees, New Jersey.

Pete was very fond of popular music and dancing. In his later years, his avid interest in sports became primary.  Pete followed team sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles, and was even certified as a "sports fanatic."  His two favorite sections of the newspapers that he read daily were the sports and weather pages.  He enjoyed trips to the Adirondack Mountains, Minnesota, California, and Cape Cod as well as to east Africa and the Holy Lands.

In his life, Pete faced a number of challenges, mostly associated with Down syndrome, and also the devastations of Alzheimer's disease at the end of his life. Nevertheless, Pete, a great hugger, had an affable, fun-loving personality, enjoyed times together with family, friends, including friends at Bancroft. He brought joy to many. One of his favorite expressions was "all is possible, all is possible."

At the request of the family, Cremation and Inurnment are private.
