IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Regina M.
Pyrah
March 25, 1926 – December 6, 2020
Regina Magdelene Pyrah, (nee Van Tassel, nee Gorman) age 94, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2020, surrounded by her loving family in Gloucester City, where she had lived all her life.
Jean was the daughter of John F. Gorman and Mary M. Gorman. She was preceded in death by her husbands Edward Van Tassel and John (Jack) Pyrah, her son Edward Jr., her brother Joseph Gorman, sister-in-law Mary Gorman, brother Francis Gorman, sister-in-law Margaret Gorman, sister Miriam Curtis, her twin brother Raymond Gorman, sister-in-law Agatha, and her daughter-in-law Venise Van Tassel. She is survived by her children William Van Tassel, John Van Tassel (Susan), Patricia Johnson (James), Jack Pyrah Jr., her brother-in-law Robert Curtis, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
Jean was a breast cancer survivor whose strong faith and resilience sustained her through early tragic losses and for the rest of her years. Her whole life was devoted to her family and to her church. She loved to join in (or lead) the singing and dancing at countless family celebrations every year. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gloucester City, where she served in many volunteer capacities, both for the church and for the school, and where she attended daily Mass well into her 90s. Singing in the church choir inspired her in her later years.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning, December 11, 2020 at 10 AM at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Jean's Mass of Christian Burial will be available on livestream on Saint Mary's Church Gloucester City Facebook page for those unable to attend. Interment will follow in New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr. There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the Mass. Those attending are asked to be in the church by 9:45 AM and must wear a mask or facial covering while observing social distancing guidelines in church and at the cemetery.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of Regina's life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 420 Monmouth St, Gloucester City, NJ 08030.
