Richard Whelan, Clayton, NJ, passed August 10, 2024, at the age of 73. Born in Camden and raised in Collingswood, NJ he was the son of the late, Ralph and Katherine (Sutterlin) Whelan. Loving father of Todd Whelan; cherished grandfather of Samson and Ruth, and brother of, Jean Hardin l. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Whelan and sister, Susan Jedrzejewski.
Richard was a self-employed Training Consultant for various institutions across the United States. From the 1970s until the late 1990s, he enjoyed directing plays with the Haddonfield Plays and Players. As an avid lover of literature and all things English, Richard was a proud member of the Philadelphia Pickwick Club, a social and charitable organization dedicated to the legacy of Charles Dickens.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City on Saturday, August 17th at 10:30 am. There will be no visitation prior to Mass and his burial will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, NJ 08030.
