Robert F. Sr.

On August 6, 2006. Age 79. Of Gloucester City, formerly of Sea Isle City. Surrounded by his loving wife of 7 years Margaret (nee Hoffman-Bignell) and the late Jean (nee Lyons). Devoted father of Sharyn Keenan and her life partner Donna Taylor of Atco, Barbara Keenan Brown and her husband Robert of Voorhees, Bobby Keenan and his wife Tammy of Gloucester City and Carol Keenan DeLucia and her husband Fred of Lumberton. Dear Brother of Pat Walter (nee Keenan) of Gloucester City and Edward Keenan who was killed in action during World War II. Beloved grandfather of Jaclyn Glatzer of Atlanta, Justin Kaplan of Philadelphia, Matt DeLucia and Michele DeLucia of Lumberton, Brandon Keenan, Patrick Keenan and Kelsey Keenan all of Gloucester City. Robert F. Keenan was born on May 14, 1927 at 228 Market Street to Edward F. Keenan and Gertrude Mahoney Keenan. Robert was known to many as ?Bear? and he attended the local Saint Mary?s Grammar School and Gloucester Catholic High School. He proudly served our country as a radarman on destroyers in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Robert co-founded the Keenan?s TV and Appliance Business at the corner of Broadway and Monmouth Street in Gloucester City. He operated a successful business at that location for 25 years until he sold it in 1977. Robert was the founder and President of Clearview Cable in the 1970?s that wired all of Gloucester City and surrounding towns for cable TV which is now known as Comcast. He had a real interest in Gloucester City and was a member of the Gloucester City Business Association, American Legion Post # 135 in Gloucester City, Knights of Columbus Council # 674, Ancient Order of Hibernians, N.J. Allied T.V. Technical Associates and Gloucester City Town Watch. Robert served as a director of the Gloucester City Savings and Loan Association that later became known as the Continental Savings and Loan Association which was later acquired by Bank of America. Robert had a strong faith and was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Mary?s R.C. Church where he was Secretary of the Needy Children?s Christmas Fund. Robert served as Chairman of the Gloucester City Community Disputes and Resolutions Committee for ten years and the City conferred on him the title of Honorary Municipal Judge of Gloucester City. He was elected to Rotary Membership on May 28, 1952 in the Gloucester City Rotary Club. During that time, he has chaired all committees, served as Treasurer in 1963-1964, President for the year 1965-1966. He was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation which is appreciation of tangible and significiant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world. He was a 50 year dedicated member and was responsible for initiating the Childrens? Christmas Party. Robert was the long time community service chair. Relatives, friends, fellow Rotarians and member of all Robert?s organizations are kindly invited to attend his viewing on Friday morning 9:30 to 11:30 am at Saint Mary?s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street (at Atlantic Street) Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am in the church. Interment with Military Honors New Saint Mary?s Cemetery, Bellmawr. There will be no evening viewing and no viewing at the funeral home. Family requests that memorial donations be made in Robert?s memory to Samaritan Hospice: 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300 Marlton, NJ 08053 or to the Robert F. Keenan, Sr. Scholarship Fund: P.O. Box 573, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003. This fund is for local youth attending his alma mater, Gloucester Catholic High School.
