Obituary

Collingswood – On June 2, 2023. Age 65. Loving and devoted husband of 44 years Lisa M. Hanson (nee Kay). Loving father of Erik Hanson (wife Jenna) and Lindsay Delaney (husband Daniel). Cherished grandpop of Connor Delaney and Cole and Cody Hanson. Predeceased by his parents, Donald M. Hanson and Gertrude R. Hanson (nee Restein).

Tom was a lifelong resident of Collingswood and a graduate of Collingswood High School, class of 1976. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in History and Teaching Certificate from Glassboro State College in 1980. Soon after graduating, Tom started a 33-year vocation as an educator for Camden High School retiring in 2013. Tom's imprint in the classroom and on the field lives on through the hundreds of students he impacted as a devoted teacher and coach. After 41 years of coaching and inspiring young students through laughter, support, and encouragement he retired in 2022.

A true historian, Tom's love for history was undeniable. He spent countless hours researching his family genealogy. He dedicated his time to historical societies, the Battleship New Jersey, and other local sites to give back to the community. As of most recent he, alongside his business partner, led historical tours through the Pine Barrens.

Tom's influence carried out of the classroom and into the city of Camden where he ran recreational programs for 35 years. Through basketball, IPLE, chess, baseball, football, weight room, and trips to educational sites Tom touched the lives of many. Giving children an opportunity to grown and flourish in a safe environment under loving support.

Tom's reach was long, his friendships unwavering, his presence felt and consistent in the lives of those he touched. His impact on youth sports in Collingswood, and involvement in various other organizations made him a true presence in the community. Tom's lasting impact is displayed through his love of his family and grandsons.
