Obituary

Gloucester City and Formerly of Paulsboro – On December 16, 2020.  Age 79. Loving and devoted husband of 56 years to Veronica "Vicky" M. (nee Settar). Beloved father of Thomas E. (Theresa) Virden, Jr. of Brooklawn, Veronica M. Hemphill of Bellmawr, Sharon (Troy) Lail of Mickleton and Lisa (George)  Dobleman of Gloucester City. Cherished grandfather of Owen (Emily) Dobleman, Brianna (Anthony) Indelicato, Gabrielle Lail, Ashlee Lail, Barry (Abby) Hemphill, Troy (Maria) Lail, Jr., Dalton Dobleman and the late Austin Dobleman. Loving great-grandfather of Olivia.

Predeceased by his father, Grover Virden and mother, Catherine Virden (nee Hagan).  Tom was the youngest of 10 siblings all who are deceased.

Tom was born, raised and lived many years in Paulsboro. He met the love of his life, Vicky and they moved to Gloucester City. Tom was a security officer for the Camden County Sheriffs Department. Tom was a devoted Catholic and was a 56 year devoted parishioner of Saint Mary's R.C. Church in Gloucester City. He worked for 10 years as church custodian at St. Mary's R.C. Church. He truly loved St. Mary's and would always be available to help his church. Tom's family meant everything to him. He would always be at his grandchildren football games. He especially watched Paulsboro High School and Gloucester City High School football. Tom enjoyed crabbing and fishing.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Tom's viewing from 9 am to 11 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Saint Mary's R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City, NJ 08030. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am in the church. Interment with his grandson, Austin in the family plot at New Saint Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr. Face Masks and Social Distancing are required in the church and at the cemetery .  Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on St. Mary's Church Gloucester City Facebook page.
